Bethpage State Park Bikeway Trail & Hiking Trails

There are many hiking options at Bethpage State Park. You can walk along the paved pathways of the Bethpage Bikeway Trail which extends almost 15 miles out and back from Bethpage to The Massapequa Preserve or you can hike on the many marked trails in the woods that parallel the Bikeway. Although today was 34 degrees with the windchill, it was still a very comfortable hike as we trekked through the woods. Most trails were relatively flat. There is some elevation (291 ft at its highest point according to All Trails) but nothing that even the novice hiker couldn't handle. It was also surprisingly dry, since we had torrential rain the day before. We never came across the lake, since we decided to try walking along the bikeway trail, which is paved and has mile markers in the tenths, which is very helpful. Due to the weather today and time of year, there were very few people on either the wooded trails or on the bikeway trail. The bikeway trail was also dry and clear of most fallen leaves. Definitely will be coming back to explore the wooded trails and find the lake, as well as bike the bikeway trail. You can hike all of these trails in good supportive sneakers although hiking shoes/boots would be better on the wooded trails due to exposed roots.
